This is a hand carved image and then hand screenprinted on archival 18 by 24 paper. It is based on the Empire Zinc Strike in 1950 in New Mexico. Many people know of this historic strike where the women continued on with the 15 month picket line when the men were no longer able to due to an injunction. This specific moment was portrayed in the movie Salt of the Earth when over 45 of the women were arrested and jailed with many of their children as well. After that event people came from the whole county to reinforce the picket line !
