Comite Exigimos Justicia Pasteles Fundraiser
This is another NEW print at the Revolutionary Lemonade Stand. Stephanie Weiner made this extra large print first by carving it, and then turning that print into a silkscreen. It is printed in three colors on archival paper and each one is signed and numbered. There are few of these and they are so large that it may be a while until more are available.
The design is based on the annual fundraising project of handmade Puerto Rican Pasteles sales for the activist group Comite Exigimos Justicia. This group of families working to free their wrongfully convicted loved ones would come together each year on a Saturday before the holidays in the basement of St. Lucas Church in Humboldt Park Chicago to cook together. We had sometimes over 40 cooks working to make the over 1000 pasteles which were all sold by 11 pm that same night ! This print captures both the bravery of those activists that first exposed the pattern of frame ups in Area 5 Gang Crime Unit and Detective Reynaldo Guevara and also the comraderie that we really did become a support system for so many in tough times.
